Prof. Dr. Jörg Libuda accepted the offer for a full professorship (W3) at the newly established Chair of Interface Research and Catalysis. Prof. Libuda has been Professor of Physical Chemistry (W2) at the Chair of Physical Chemistry II since 2005. Besides other awards and commitments, he has been spokesperson of the DFG Research Unit FOR 1878 “funCOS” since 2013. While accepting the new position at the FAU, Prof. Libuda rejected an offer for W3-Professorship at the Free University Berlin and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing.

At the international level, the Libuda Group is among the leading research groups in the fields of interface science and model catalysis. The activities of the group are focused on fundamental research on interface-related processes, e.g., in the fields of heterogeneous catalysis, electrocatalysis, energy-related materials, and hybrid- and nanomaterials.

The new Chair of Interface Research and Catalysis will be part of the Erlangen Catalysis Resource Center (ECRC). ECRC is an Interdisciplinary Center at FAU which will be headed jointly by Prof. Libuda and Prof. Martin Hartmann.

With the foundation of the new Chair, FAU aims at generating an internationally visible center and strategically strengthens the research activities in the field of interface science and catalysis.
