Professor Dirk M. Guldi was invited to speak at the symposium From Molecular Design to Future Materials, held in honor of Professor Nazario Martín to celebrate his 70th anniversary at the Facultad de Ciencias Físicas, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, on June 11–12, 2026. The event brought together leading international researchers to discuss recent advances in molecular science, functional materials, and emerging technologies inspired by molecular design.
Dirk Guldi presented a lecture entitled Beyond TTF and exTTF, highlighting recent developments in the design and application of advanced electron-donor systems for molecular electronics, energy conversion, and photoactive materials. The presentation explored how the concepts pioneered by tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) and extended TTF derivatives continue to inspire new molecular architectures with tailored electronic and photophysical properties.
The symposium was particularly meaningful as it celebrated the remarkable scientific achievements of Nazario Martín, a long-standing friend and collaborator of Dirk Guldi. Their shared scientific journey spans many years and has contributed significantly to advancing the fields of carbon-rich functional materials, and photochemistry. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to reflect on these accomplishments while discussing future directions for molecular materials research.
