Maria studied Molecular Science and Chemistry at FAU. She joined the group of Prof. Dr. Ingrid Span in April 2023. For her Master´s thesis, she investigated the first coordination sphere of the [4Fe-4S] cluster in Bacillus Thermoproteolyticus Ferredoxin. For this, she created different protein variants using site-directed mutagenesis. She established recombinant expression and production, as well as anaerobic purification of the different protein variants. In December 2024, Maria was awarded a fellowship by the Hans-Böckler Foundation and started her doctoral studies for which she investigates the role of the Fe-S cluster in the C-terminal pyrophosphatase domain of Schizosaccharomyces pombe Asp1.
