Research funding ranking affirms top position for chemistry in Erlangen

Chemical research at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg has been taken leading positions in Germany for years. The latest research funding ranking of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) confirms Erlangen’s top position in chemical research. Erlangen was able to extend the lead in 2009 compared to 2006 where Erlangen took the second position.

Concerning DFG’s calculations Erlangen was granted about 17.3 Mio Euros from third-party fundings and stays ahead of universities like Heidelberg (16 Mio Euros), Frankfurt / Main (15 Mio Euros) and Munich (Technical University 14.4 Euros and Ludwig-Maximilians-University 13.2 Euros).

The DFG ranking affirms the central research position that chemistry occupies at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. More than half of the funding grants in natural sciences go to chemical research; especially to molecular chemistry which is one of the main focuses at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy in Erlangen.
