Luis Scheuenstuhl studied chemistry at the FAU in Erlangen and joined the Span group during his master studies at the end of 2022. He wrote his master thesis on “Studies towards the biological maturation of the highly active [FeFe] hydrogenase from Desulfovibrio desulfuricans”. During this time, he established the recombinant expression of the maturases for the [FeFe] hydrogenase from Desulfovibrio desulfuricans. In April 2025 he received a scholarship from the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and started his Ph.D. studies, where he continues to work with maturases for [FeFe] hydrogenases.
