Information about the FAU App

Student Initiatives (FSI)

Student Initiatives (FSI) are groups of students who work voluntarily to help out their fellow students by, for example, organizing introductory events, hosting tutorials, and representing student interests at the university. FSI members are part of the larger Student Council at the FAU.

Introductory Courses

Introductory courses usually take place at the beginning of the first semester:

In the winter semester…

  • Bachelor’s degree courses in Chemistry or Molecular Science
  • Master’s degree courses in Chemistry or Molecular Science
  • Teacher’s degree in Chemistry
  • State Examination degree in Food Chemistry or Pharmacy

In the summer semester…

  • Master’s degree courses in Chemistry or Molecular Science

Course dates are published either under the Study tab or at the website of the Faculty of Sciences (in German).

Diploma Supplement

A diploma supplement is an addendum to the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree certificate, first introduced during the Bologna Process of 1999. The diploma supplement is usually issued both in German and English, and contains important information regarding your study program, including admission requirements, the contents of your studies, any acquired competencies, and possible occupational fields that may follow an education in your field.

The focus of the diploma supplement is to summarize and explain the graduate’s skills and abilities.

Student Advisory (IBZ)

Compulsory Attendance

Unlike studying in high school, there is no university-wide requirement to attend lectures. Whether attendance is mandatory depends on the nature of the course; for example, small seminars with regular discussions may require your attendance.

Please note: you may not be able to obtain a written proof of achievement if you miss the course too many times.

You can also watch some of the lectures at the FAU Video Portal.

Student Advice and Career Service (IBZ)

The Student Advice and Career Service (Allgemeine Studienberatung, IBZ) is the first point of contact for general questions about studying in Erlangen and at the FAU. The IBZ can help students with questions about enrollment, application, and entry requrements…
