We are happy to welcome our new Alexander von Humboldt fellow Alejandro Cortés Villena
Alejandro Cortés Villena obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemistry in 2017 from the University of Almería (UAL) and subsequently moved to Valencia to perform his interuniversity Master’s degree in Sustainable Chemistry at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) during the period of 2017-2018. Then, he joined the Photochemistry Reactivity Group of the Institute of Molecular Science at the University of Valencia (UV), during which he conducted research related to synthesis and photophysics of photoactive semiconductor nanomaterials, where he obtained his PhD in January 2025. In 2026, he was awarded with an Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship to perform postdoctoral research at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). He joined the Guldi Group in March 2th 2026 for the next two years to work on hybrid materials that combine perovskite nanocrystals with acene-based organic molecules to exploit singlet fission processes and the effect of band alignment. He will contribute to a better understanding of the underlying operational mechanism at the interface in these hybrids to create more efficient next-generation solar devices.
