Prof. Dirk M. Guldi’s Productive Journey Through China: Advancing Carbon Nanoscience and Catalysis

Prof. Guldi presenting at Anhui Normal University in Wuhu, China

Prof. Dirk M. Guldi recently embarked on a fruitful academic tour across China, engaging with international experts and sharing groundbreaking insights into the fields of carbon nanoscience and catalysis.

Fullerene Ruby Anniversary Symposium:

From November 14-17, 2025, Prof. Guldi attended the 2025 Fullerene Ruby Anniversary Symposium at Anhui Normal University in Wuhu, China. His lecture, “Designing Carbon Dots for Enhanced Photo-Catalysis: Challenges and Opportunities,” captivated a dynamic assembly of preeminent scientists, including Profs. Yang, Echegoyen, and Komatsu. This gathering underscored the symposium’s commitment to pioneering collaborative and innovative approaches within the realm of carbon nanoscience.

Catalysis Exploration at City University of Hong Kong:

On November 17, 2025, Prof. Guldi visited the City University of Hong Kong, where he delivered a compelling presentation on the same topic. Part of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Nanoscale Editorial Board’s initiatives, this session, hosted by the School of Science and Engineering, highlighted the crucial role of interdisciplinary collaborations in driving catalytic research forward and fostering valuable discourse among leading experts.

Innovative Dialogues at the RSC-Nanoscale & HKU-MILES Symposium:

Prof. Guldi’s journey continued on November 18, 2025, in Shenzhen, at the RSC-Nanoscale & HKU-MILES International Symposium. Hosted by the Materials Innovation Institute for Life Sciences and Energy (MILES) and held at the architecturally remarkable Hetao Innovation Center, Prof. Guldi discussed “Molecular Strategies for Photon Down-Conversion and Up-Conversion.” The venue’s cutting-edge design aptly reflected the symposium’s forward-thinking discourse on nanoscale advancements.

Engagement at the Long Feng Science Forum:

Participating in the Long Feng Science Forum on November 19, 2025, at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shenzhen, Prof. Guldi engaged in vibrant exchanges under the workshop series “In Dialogue with RSC Editors.” His presentation on photon conversion strategies offered significant insights, furthering cross-disciplinary collaboration in photonics.

Alumni Reunion at Jinan University:

Culminating his Chinese tour with a visit to Jinan University on November 21, 2025, Prof. Guldi delivered an engaging lecture on “Solar Energy Conversion.” Hosted by the College of Chemistry and Materials Science, this event was marked by a heartening reunion with Bingzhe Wang, a former Ph.D. student who has joined the Jinan faculty. This meeting emphasized the enduring influence of mentoring and academic partnerships.

Throughout his travels, Prof. Guldi not only shared his expertise but also strengthened international collaborations that will yield lasting benefits in material sciences and beyond.
