New Research Paper on Colloidal stability of anisotropic magnetic nanodiscs
We are excited to share our recently published research paper: Donnarumma, P., Macchione, M., Koçar, E., Wasner, F., Toro, V. D., Irranca, S. M., Gutiérrez Pineda, E., Thongsom, S., Gregurec, D. & Moya, S. E. (2025). Enhancing colloidal stability of Anisotropic Magnetic Nanodiscs through mesoporous silica and P (NIPAM/MAA) copolymer coatings. Nanoscale. 10.1039/D5NR03822G
The joint study with our collaborators from CICbiomaGUNE, San Sebastian, Spain, showcases an improved synthesis for anisotropic magnetite nanodiscs (MNDs) by coating hematite templates with a thin mesoporous silica shell before reduction and then grafting a P(NIPAM/MAA) polymer layer, resulting in nanodiscs that remain uniformly shaped and resist aggregation even in aqueous and cell-culture media. This enhanced colloidal stability broadens the potential of MNDs for biomedical applications where stable dispersions are critical.
